4602nd Air Intelligence Service Squadron
Air Defense Command unit created Jan 3, 1953 (Fort Belvoir, VA) by ADC Regulation 24-4, whose charter assigned field investigation of UFO reports as an explicit capability; under AFR 200-2 it took over field investigation of UFO reports for Project Blue Book. Redesignated the 1006th AISS (1957) and then the 1127th Field Activities Group (1960) - the lineage later tasked with Moon Dust / Blue Fly recoveries, undercutting the idea that later UFO references in the paperwork were incidental.

held the UFO case files, 1954-1956, in the Air Force investigation chainCaveat The NARA series record proves the 4602d held UFO case files in RG 341 for 1954-1956 and places the squadron in the Air Force UFO chain of custody. AFR 200-2 has never been read by this project; it was asserted from a citation line. Removed rather than left reading as sourced. It can return the day someone opens the regulation. Note also that this source is a NARA SERIES, and whether a series counts as a document is still an open question here.
