Verified 2 September 2026 against Wikipedia, "John Foster Dulles", fetched that day, WHICH GIVES TWO DIFFERENT DATES AND THIS RECORD HAD CONFLATED THEM: "he resigned from office on April 15, 1959" and "Dulles died at Walter Reed on May 24, 1959, at the age of 71." The end recorded here, 1959-05-24, is the DEATH. The office ended six weeks earlier. Until today the date_label read "U.S. Secretary of State" and the header therefore asserted he held the post until 24 May 1959, which is wrong by six weeks. The label now names what the right-hand date is. THE DATES ARE UNCHANGED: whether the span should instead run to 15 April 1959 and the death be dropped is an editorial decision, not a correction. RECORDED GRADE: fetched secondary source, not a primary document read by eye. It is recorded so a reader can check it, and it is the same grade as the fourteen death dates already on this map.
