Astronomer (M.A., University of Michigan) and author of The Case for the UFO (1955), which promoted antigravity as a propulsion explanation. Central to the Philadelphia Experiment / "Allende letters" lore, an annotated copy of which reached the Office of Naval Research (the "Varo edition"). Found dead of carbon-monoxide poisoning in his car in Dade County, Florida on April 20, 1959; ruled suicide amid documented depression, though the Navy connection made it a perennial "mysterious death" in UFO literature.
