Nimitz Encounter (2004)

The encounter reported on 14 November 2004 by F/A-18 aircrew from the USS Nimitz carrier strike group, working with the USS Princeton off southern California. Commander David Fravor, who flew the intercept, testified under oath in July 2023 that the object was a roughly 40-foot wingless shape with no exhaust plume and no visible means of propulsion, that the Princeton, the Nimitz and the E-2 all held it while his own fire-control radar never did, and that when the second aircraft attempted to lock it the radar was jammed. He testified in the same hearing that the incident was never investigated and that none of his crew were ever questioned. Fourteen months earlier the Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence, Scott Bray, had told the House Intelligence Committee in open session that this was the case he would cite as still unresolved. Those two statements - the pilot saying nobody asked, and the Navy saying it has no answer - are the whole of what this project holds on it, and both are held pages.
