1936-01-01year known, day not recorded
Caltech doctoral student under von Karman who, alongside Malina and Parsons, helped pioneer the theoretical rocket-propulsion work that led to JPL's founding. Despite no evidence of espionage, McCarthy-era suspicion of his Communist Party ties led the U.S. to deport him in 1955; he went on to found and lead China's own space and missile program.
