USS Jackson Encounter (2023)

An encounter reported aboard the littoral combat ship USS Jackson on the evening of 15 February 2023, at about 19:15 Pacific time, in the Whiskey 291 warning area off southern California. Senior Chief Operations Specialist Alexandro Wiggins, the watchstander, testified under oath on 9 September 2025 that a self-luminous tic-tac-shaped object emerged from the ocean, joined three others, and that the four departed simultaneously with a near-instantaneous acceleration; that he saw no sonic boom, no exhaust plume and no control-surface articulation on the SAFIRE imaging system; and that the radar tracks dropped after the departure. He testified that he made his report to the tactical action officer on watch and that no after-action report followed and no agency has debriefed him or the crew since. The ship's video was played into the congressional record at the hearing. It is the only account on this map given by a servicemember who was still serving when he gave it.
