Stanislaw Ulam

1951–1984

Mathematician at Los Alamos who, with Edward Teller, devised the Teller-Ulam design that made the hydrogen bomb feasible (1951). Also pioneered the Monte Carlo method and the nuclear-pulse propulsion idea behind Project Orion.
