Israeli-American biomedical engineer and author ("Stalking the Wild Pendulum," 1977) whose research on consciousness and vibration was cited directly in the CIA's declassified 1983 report on the Monroe Institute's "Gateway Process" - posthumously, as he died in the crash of American Airlines Flight 191 in 1979. Beyond the consciousness work, his 1967 steerable cardiac catheter - invented in a Belmont, Massachusetts church basement - seeded the company that became Boston Scientific. His daughter later learned he had built Israel's first rocket while serving in the Israeli Defense Forces, a chapter of his life he never discussed.
