Soviet/Russian UFO Study

1980-01-01 – 1990-01-01year known, day not recorded

A roughly decade-long UFO investigation run by the Soviet/Russian military: per George Knapp's 2023 congressional testimony, Russian leaders ordered every military unit to report and investigate UFO incidents and forward the material to a Ministry of Defense office, accumulating thousands of case files. Knapp traveled to Moscow in 1993 and interviewed its participants. A documented foreign parallel to the US programs; the more dramatic incident claims rest on that testimony.

The category

Recategorised from "incident" to "gov" on 26 August 2026, on the operator's ruling. Its role says it was "run by the Soviet/Russian military". CAVEAT ON THE FIELD, NOT THE RULING: this map's "gov" carries no nationality - the token label is "Government / Military" - and the map is otherwise almost entirely American, so a reader could take this for a US programme. The role text names the Soviet/Russian military in its opening line.
